Introducing MidiStickers
An innovative music teaching and learning tool for the 21st century.
Online Music Teaching Challenges
The pandemic forced music teachers to rapidly embrace music technology and to create engaging lessons and video content at a breakneck pace. During this period, our team found a shortage of effective music teaching tools suitable for real-time usage during lessons or video recording.
When teaching subjects such as counterpoint, classical and jazz harmony, music analysis, figured bass realization, partimento and complex chord voicings, existing tools proved either inadequate, lacking in depth, or not attractive enough to engage students.
We also wasted considerable time setting up complex layouts for video recording and streaming due to inflexible user interfaces and limited visual customizations options.
Simplifying Teaching and Learning Music
What if we could have a comprehensive music teaching tool for creative teachers and learners, capable of translating real-time MIDI input into music notation with proper enharmonics, identifying chords, generating roman numerals, figured bass and many other layers of analysis to support visually compelling demonstrations?
What if you could freely combine and mix all of those visual layers, with many options to best align with your preferred terminology and textbook?
What if we could use all these tools seamlessly within our teaching flow as widget overlays on your screen or during video capture for content creation?
What if producing videos involved simply capturing our screen and effortlessly moving and resizing these elements as you wish?
What if we could extend music notation to represent dynamics as real-time colors, or define coloring rules for specific chord types or harmonic functions?
What if we could easily view scales, modes, chords, voicings, and practice them with real-time feedback and auto-accompaniment in various styles, all in the same software?
These creative sparks, pedagogical visions and technical insigths led us to develop MidiStickers, our deeply innovative, one-of-a-kind music software. Built with passion, it leverages a lifetime of creative teaching expertise and robust pedagogical underpinnings to address the needs of sophisticated music teachers and students.
From Music Teachers to Music Teachers
During MidiSticker’s development process, our regular testing scenario involved live lessons, both in-person and remote, with dozens of students enrolled in college-level courses such as counterpoint, harmony, music analysis, figured bass, partimento and jazz harmony. In each of those courses, our real-time visualization consistently received high praise from students, significantly aiding their understanding of the intricacies of music theory.
These extensive real-world testing experiences led us to emphasize simple gestures and an agile workflow without unnecessary complexities that hinder the teaching process.
With the release of our software, we hope to make a stride in music teaching, and to address gaps we ourselves experienced during years of teaching.
Empowering Music Students
Beyond teacher-centric scenarios, MidiStickers also empowers students to actively play, observe, and learn independently by leveraging the power of real-time feedback.
Our software is perfectly suited for music labs equipped with MIDI controllers, enabling students to:
- Explore chords and the various symbols used to represent them
- Practice chord progressions in all keys with ease
- Engage in creative improvisation with auto-accompaniament integrated with chord voicing and scale studies.
- Visually experience musical dynamics with our unique color-mapping system
- Learn interactively through engaging MIDI-based multiplayer games
Embracing 21st-century Music Education: our path ahead
While we acknowledge that technology alone isn’t the solution for a meaningful music education, we deeply believe in the value of tools such as ours that encourage active experimentation – for both teachers and students. Our software can provide a sandbox-like experience, where users actively engage with tools that encompass 300 years of solid musical knowledge, from the earliest figured bass symbols to contemporary jazz and neo-soul voicings.
We are at the very beginning of our journey! Much more is planned – be sure to check our roadmap next. If you wish to support our mission to make music teaching and learning more compelling, engaging, and truly enjoyable, please consider purchasing our software, either for your personal use or for your music school. We offer competitive pricing for lifetime licenses, as well as special pricing to ensure accessibility for students and institutions in regions like Latin America and Africa.
